Kim Kardashian still using Sea Moss and plant-based diets!

by Health Holistics shop Admin on August 18, 2021

“Another day, another Kardashian diet choice that'll have you scratching your head.”

This is what was said by SHAPE magazine in the USA. Now, you may love or hate the TV reality star but one thing is sure: you can’t ignore her! Kim Kardashian is an international trendsetter and influencer. And it seems that sea moss has found its well-deserved place in her daily diet.  An impossibly rich and famous celebrity with access to private chefs and nutritionists, as well as ridiculously expensive health and beauty products, Kim Kardashian gives sea moss her seal of approval.

Why is that?

  • Sea moss might sound like something green and damp that you'd find compressed to an aging rock at the bottom of the ocean, but that image isn't quite accurate. Sea moss, or Irish moss, is actually a type of red algae found on the Atlantic Coast in Europe and North America, explains Hillary Cecere, registered dietician for Eat Clean Bro.
  • Not only that, but contrary to what you might assume based on its name, sea moss is neither green nor red; it's yellow, and apparently, it has a strong seaweed-esque flavor, adds Cecere. (Related: Smart Ways to Cook with Seaweed That Have Nothing to Do with Sushi)
  • As for the health benefits, sea moss can make for one heck of a dietary supplement. Typically available in capsule, gel, or whole food form, sea moss is high in many vitamins, antioxidants, and minerals, such as selenium and magnesium, she explains. It can also help to boost immunity, digestive health, and it can reduce inflammation, though more scientific evidence is needed to verify these benefits, adds Cecere.
  • Sea moss is associated with some mental health benefits, too. It's swarming with potassium, a mineral and electrolyte that's been linked to improved mental functioning, explains Grace Derocha, registered dietitian, certified diabetes educator, and certified health coach at Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan. Plus, sea moss contains a wide range of B vitamins, which are known to help support the nervous system and reduce stress, she adds.
  • Of course, just because sea moss might work for Kardashian's body and health goals, that doesn't necessarily mean you should start loading the algae into your own breakfast smoothies. (Related: 10 Ways to Eat Algae That Aren't Weird At All)
  • "[Sea moss] is not recommended for people who suffer from ulcers [or] have bleeding disorders or an iodine allergy," explains Cecere, adding that sea moss can also negatively interact with some thyroid medications, blood thinner medications, and it should not be taken if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
  • If nothing else, Kardashian has definitely offered some food for thought (pun intended). Just make sure to get the all-clear from your doctor before adding the supplement to your diet.
